The exchange programme is scheduled to take place from January 2015.

How will a panel select the successful candidates?
An internal panel at the BSR will make the final decision on who will be awarded the bursaries.

What academic level would the applicants be?
The panel will award the bursaries on merit and this could be to trainees or fully qualified rheumatologists. If you have any other questions or would like to apply, email comms@rheumatology.org.uk for additional information and an application form.

For host units

What is the duration of the exchange terms?
The SIR research bursary is for a duration of 6 to 12 months and the SIR training bursary is for an attachment of up to 30 days.

What are the benefits of offering a placement?
The unit will have someone to help with a research project that would have a significant bursary to cover their personal costs. The institution can also improve relations with other colleagues and organisations overseas.

Are there any particular types of research/training preferred for the bursary?
No – all UK units are welcome to apply. The more host applications received the better the two societies can ensure applicants are well matched.

How will a panel select suitable host institutions?
An internal panel at the BSR will make the final decision on matching the Italian exchange individuals to the suitable institution.
