BSR Best Practice Awards

The BSR launched its Best Practice Awards in 2013 as a means of not only rewarding the excellence and endeavour of rheumatology services, but also to gather information on these services, which could be used to inform future service development. To support this process, the awards have been underpinned by robust economic evaluation since their inception, as a means of capturing important clinical, financial and patient outcomes data.

The first set of awards were announced in 2013, just as the Health and Social Care Act reforms were enacted and the second set of Awards, announced in March 2016, reflect the changes that have taken place to services in the NHS since 2013.

Case studies have been produced for all winning sites from the 2013 and 2016 awards. These case studies set out key information on how the project was developed, evidence of impact on clinical outcomes, costs and patient experience, as well as providing an indication of the commissioning priorities each project could potentially meet. These case studies have been used, and will continue to be used, to inform service design, commissioning and policy development.
