Role: Chair, rheumatology specialty certificate examination (SCE) Board.


You'll have overall responsibility for the SCE Board to ensure all academic objectives are met; that the SCE meets standards set by the GMC; for the selection, appointment and training of board members and monitoring their performance; and for ongoing development of the SCE in the context of the decisions taken by the SCE Steering Group and the MRCP(UK) Management Board.


You'll become a member of the rheumatology SCE Standard Setting Group. As Chair, you'll have overall responsibility for coordinating the Examining Board, Standard Setting Group and Question Writing Group's activities to ensure all academic objectives are met. As a member of the SCE Steering Group, you'll advise on issues affecting the academic and policy matters of the rheumatology SCE.

Is this you?

You'll:

  • Hold the MRCP(UK) or an equivalent postgraduate diploma

  • Be practising as a specialist in rheumatology, and a member or Fellow of one of the three Colleges

  • Be registered with a licence to practise and in good standing on the GMC specialist register

  • Be actively engaged in the training of junior doctors in the UK (or within the last two years)

  • Be up-to-date as appropriate with relevant national guidelines, CPD requirements, employer’s equality and diversity training, and appraisal process

  • Experience of SCE Board membership is desirable

The next board meeting is on 6 and 7 October vis MS Teams; if successful you will be required to attend.


This is a non-salaried position though all reasonable expenses and travel costs will be met by MRCP(UK) Central Office in line with the Federation expenses policy. The tenure of appointment is five years. This is subject to regular attendance at meetings and remaining in good standing with the GMC, as these will be monitored.
