Mental health issues are common amongst people with long-term conditions; for instance, around a third of people with rheumatoid arthritis in the UK experience mental health issues. The stress of diagnosis, symptoms and the impact on work and family life takes a toll on physical and mental wellbeing.
We would like to see the integration of mental and physical health, by providing more psychological support in rheumatology departments and increasing training on mental health and holistic assessments for primary and secondary care health professionals.
