Garrod award winner
Dr Alexandros Mitropoulos, Research Fellow in Clinical Exercise Physiology, Sheffield Hallam University, for their work on the effects of a tailored exercise programme on pain and fatigue in people with SSc (PwSSc).
Abstract award winners
This year we received 449 abstract submissions in total - that's 7% more than last year. Winning abstracts highlight advancements in spondyloarthropathies, scleroderma and myositis, audit and quality improvement, connective tissue diseases including SLE and sjögren disease, vasculitis and PMR, osteoarthritis and soft tissue conditions, and paediatric and adolescent rheumatology.
Young Investigator Award
- Martin Lauran, Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, for their abstract ‘The effect of biologic disease modifying antirheumatic drugs on the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in psoriatic arthritis patients’.
- Gang Chen, University of Manchester, for their abstract ‘HLA Loci Heterozygosity Modulates Genetic Risk in Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies’.
Nurse and Allied Health Professional Award
- Sarah Ryan, Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, for their abstract 'A national survey of rheumatology telephone advice line support: user perspectives’.
Student Award
- Hristina Bachvarova, for their abstract ‘End-stage renal failure (ESRF) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may be explained by suboptimal care delivery to high-risk patient groups’.
- Abigail Nutley, for their abstract ‘Low density neutrophils in ANCA-Associated Vasculitis'.
- Shree Rath, for their abstract 'Efficacy of Methotrexate for symptomatic relief in patients with Osteoarthritis: A Systematic review and Meta-analysis'.
Paediatric Award
- Flora McErlane, Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle, for their abstract ‘Embedding quality improvement across paediatric and adolescent rheumatology: the JIA Learn experience’.
