The Future Leaders came together for the final time in a Celebration Day at Ashridge House. The team were thrilled to celebrate the official end of our first cohort, but also sad their wonderful journeys had come to an end.
The Celebration Day featured special guests such as NASS CEO Dale Webb, NRAS Founder Ailsa Bosworth, BSR President Jo Ledingham and members of the education committee. The day featured speakers from participants who talked about their projects and the changes it’s had within their community throughout the programme.
The first cohort of the programme was delivered in partnership with Hult EF Corporate Education and all participants highlighted how imperative course leader Guy Lubitsh was within each module and the impact he has had on them.
Arti Mahto, consultant rheumatologist at Kings College Hospital expressed her gratitude and said, “I want to thank BSR for the amazing opportunity to take part in this fantastic Future Leaders course with the most amazing mentor Guy.
“The course taught me to challenge myself and gave me new ways of thinking. Most of all, I built a new growing network of rheumatology clinicians within the MDT and made new friends.”
Madeline Whitlock, who has been working as a clinical nurse specialist at Southend Hospital for 40 years reflected on her time on the Future Leaders Programme.
“This programme is exactly what I’ve been waiting for, and I’m so honoured to have taken part,” she said.
“I’ve been able to take what I’ve learnt from this course personally and professionally and implement it in my daily life. I now have a new perspective on being a better leader and I feel I can take on anything that comes my way.”
The group represented the entire rheumatology multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physiotherapists, consultants, trainees, occupational therapists, and specialty doctors.
The day came to an end with poster presentations featuring innovative projects from each participant showcasing their growth through their remarkable and inspiring journeys.
Marina Serrano, BSR head of education said, “The impact this programme has had on our participants has been profound and we're excited about what the future holds for this new generation of system leaders and confident that the future of rheumatology is in very safe hands.”
