We’re delighted to announce Professor Ernest Choy (Cardiff University) as the incoming Editor-in-Chief of Rheumatology.

Ernest will take the reins from Dr Marwan Bukhari (Royal Lancaster Infirmary), who finishes his highly productive term as Editor-in-Chief in February 2024.

We thank Marwan for his invaluable input during his tenure and look forward to working with Ernest during his 5-year tenure.

    Marwan reflects:

"I have had a busy and enjoyable five years with a wonderfully friendly team. My abiding memories are of the increase in publications during the COVID-19 pandemic, navigating the change in Impact Factor calculations, and the rise of social media as a disseminator of research. I am proud to leave an enthused, diverse and dynamic Editorial Board, Associate Editor and Co-Editor team, and wish them all the best."

    Ernest says:

"Taking over from Marwan and maintaining his highly successful stewardship is no small task, so it is with great excitement and a small amount of trepidation that I will start my tenure. My mission is to keep the journal relevant to clinicians and researchers. Technology-led research is evolving at an alarming pace; keeping up will not be easy but I am determined to keep the journal at the forefront of rheumatology science and practice."

In our Talking Rheumatology Research episode, recorded at ACR23, Ernest tells us about his plans for the journal and the type of research he's keen to see.
