With this year’s Annual Conference approaching, we are excited to showcase a range of sessions specifically designed for paediatric rheumatologists. The programme features leading experts, dynamic discussions, and valuable insights into the latest advancements, clinical challenges, and collaborative approaches in paediatric rheumatology.

The programme is now available for you to explore, and we encourage you to take full advantage of the engaging sessions designed to enhance knowledge and clinical practice. Here are some of the key highlights:

What is the relationship between childhood obesity and disease outcomes in paediatric rheumatology?
With obesity rates rising among children, this session examines how a higher BMI influences inflammation, metabolic disorders, and long-term health outcomes for paediatric rheumatology patients. Speakers will explore the impact of obesity on disease progression, treatment responses, and mental health while discussing strategies for improving clinical outcomes and supporting young patients in managing their condition.

The Barbara Ansell address
Don't miss our keynote paediatric speaker, Jacqui Clinch, delivering the Barbara Ansell address. With over 25 years of experience in paediatric and adolescent rheumatology, Jacqui has played a pivotal role in advancing care, shaping guidelines, and advocating for equity in musculoskeletal healthcare for young people.

Psychologically informed healthcare in paediatric rheumatology: doing the basics as best we can
Children and young people with long-term health conditions are at a significantly higher risk of mental health issues. Despite this, access to dedicated psychological support remains limited. This session explores the principles of psychologically informed healthcare, offering practical guidance for integrating mental health awareness into clinical practice. Speakers will also share outcomes from the Psychologically Informed Collaborative Conversations course, highlighting its impact on paediatric physiotherapy practice.

The role of the paediatric rheumatologist in critical care
Building on the success of last year’s trainee-led session, this year’s event will feature case-based discussions on the role of paediatric rheumatologists in critical care. Three trainee speakers will present diverse clinical cases, emphasising collaborative approaches in assessment, diagnosis, and management. The session will conclude with an expert speaker drawing key learning points and facilitating an interactive discussion.

Chronic pain in young people with inflammatory conditions
Despite the advancements in treatments for paediatric inflammatory conditions, persistent pain continues to negatively impact the quality of life for many young patients. This session will explore why pain remains a significant issue, the role of the multidisciplinary team in addressing persistent pain, and strategies to improve quality of life outcomes for children and young people.

These sessions, alongside many others in the programme, reflect our commitment to advancing paediatric rheumatology care through collaboration, education, and innovation.
