The UK JIA Biologics Register is the collective name for two parallel studies which are coordinated at the University of Manchester:

  • British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Etanercept Study (BSPAR ETN) – UKCRN ID: 13553
  • Biologics for Children with Rheumatic Diseases (BCRD) - UKCRN ID:7725

These studies have been running for over 10 years. Children and young people with JIA who have received treatment with a biologic, biosimilar, or other targeted new therapy are registered and followed up over the long term, to discover more about the safety and effectiveness of these treatments.

Registration of patients starting tofacitinib has recently opened, including an associated payment of up to £350 for submitting baseline and follow-up data for these patients.

Over 3500 participants have been recruited from 51 NHS Hospitals in the UK, and the data has resulted in 13 publications (to date) in peer-reviewed journals.

Eligibility can be found on this flyer.

Recruitment is ongoing – please contact the study coordinators Katy (katy.mowbray@manchester.ac.uk) and Emily (Emily.sutton@manchester.ac.uk) if you have any questions about getting involved.
