Prof Anne Barton, Heberden Oration
Anne is a professor of rheumatology and centre lead for the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research at The University of Manchester; she is also an honorary consultant rheumatologist at Manchester University Foundation Trust. Since 2016, she has been Director of the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research, a EULAR Centre of Excellence. She is an NIHR Senior Clinical Investigator.
Dr Clarissa Pilkington, Barbara Ansell Address
Clarissa's a consultant in paediatric and adolescent rheumatology, University College and Great Ormond Street Hospitals since Sept 2001. Led the rheumatology team at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH 2004-18), appointed as Chief of Service for Blood Cells and Cancer Directorate in October 2018. Past President of the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology (BSPAR) 2012-2017, oversaw the integration with the adult organisation of British Society of Rheumatology to become an organisation representing rheumatology at all ages.
Dr Grace Spence Green, keynote address
Grace is a junior doctor working to challenge the narratives surrounding disability, medicine and identity. She is passionate about medicine, advocacy for the disabled community and challenging ableism, the stigma surrounding disability and inaccessible spaces. She would love to see better and much more inclusive representation for disabled people in all walks of life and particularly in medicine and the media. She hopes in the future to work in the field of paediatrics, advocating for disabled children.
Prof Raashid Luqmani, Heberden Round
Raashid's a clinician who's had an academic interest for most of his career. Currently head of the clinical department of rheumatology in Oxford, his research focuses on systemic vasculitis. He completed his rheumatology training in Birmingham, where he developed and published the Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score and was involved in the development of the Vasculitis Damage Index and later the BVAS for Wegener’s Granulomatosis. He's convened a number of BSR and EULAR guidelines and recommendations on rheumatoid arthritis and vasculitis.
Dr Mwidimi Ndosi, Droitwich Lecture
Mwidimi's a senior lecturer in rheumatology nursing, combining research and student education roles in the School of Health and Social Wellbeing at the University of the West of England Bristol. He's passionate about applied research that addresses questions of importance to patients and patient care. His research has supported recommendations for patient education, rheumatology nursing and competencies for health professionals in rheumatology.
Within British Society for Rheumatology, Mwidimi has held leadership roles as Deputy Research and Conference Officer, Conference Officer and member of the Heberden Committee representing nurses and health professionals. He is a co-editor of Rheumatology Advances in Practice.
